WordPress Plugin Customisation
Modify existing plugins to fit your specific needs — add functionality without building from scratch.
Trusted by founders & teams across the US, UK & UAE

What WordPress Plugin Customisation involves
Sometimes an existing plugin does 90% of what you need, but the remaining 10% is the part that matters for your business. Rather than rebuilding the whole thing or accepting a suboptimal workflow, plugin customisation extends or modifies the existing plugin to cover your specific requirement.
We customise plugins using hooks (actions and filters) wherever possible — this means customisations survive plugin updates without needing to be reapplied. When direct code modification is unavoidable, we document what changed and why so it can be maintained across updates.
What you get
- Plugin modification
- Functionality extension
- Compatibility testing

Start a ProjectWhat a strong WordPress Plugin Customisation delivers
Lower cost than building from scratch
If a plugin already handles 80% of the requirement correctly, customising the remaining 20% costs a fraction of a full rebuild.
Customisations survive updates where possible
We use WordPress hooks rather than directly editing plugin files wherever possible. Hook-based customisations live in your theme or a companion plugin and survive plugin updates automatically.
Documented changes for future maintenance
Any direct plugin modifications are documented with a clear explanation of what changed, why, and what to check after a plugin update.
Our WordPress Plugin Customisation process
Requirement review
We assess exactly what the plugin currently does and what gap exists, then identify the cleanest implementation approach.

Hook-based modifications in a companion plugin or theme, or direct changes with documentation if hooks are not available.
Testing
Full functionality test and compatibility check with your other active plugins.
Handover
Change documentation delivered with a note on what to check when the plugin updates.

Best fit when
Your website needs to support growth, search visibility, clean editing, and a distinct brand experience.
Strong-fit situations
Each card describes a practical use case, not just a keyword variation. That keeps the page helpful and index-worthy.
- Fit 01
Businesses where an existing plugin does 90% of what they need
Customising the remaining 10% costs a fraction of building the whole functionality from scratch.
- Fit 02
Sites using WooCommerce plugins that need extra fields or logic
Add custom product fields, checkout options, or admin columns to existing WooCommerce extensions without replacing them.
- Fit 03
Organisations that need a contact form plugin to do something specific
Custom hooks on Contact Form 7, Gravity Forms, or WPForms can add conditional logic, integrate with external services, or change default behaviour.
- Fit 04
Teams who want plugin modifications that survive updates
Hook-based customisations live outside the plugin files and are not overwritten when the plugin updates.
- Fit 05
Companies with a legacy plugin that needs specific behaviour changed
Rather than replacing a plugin your team knows, we modify its behaviour through documented, maintainable code changes.

Questions about WordPress Plugin Customisation
What happens when the original plugin updates?
If the customisation uses WordPress hooks, it survives the update automatically because the customisation code lives outside the plugin files. If the customisation required direct code changes to plugin files, those changes will need to be reapplied after the update — which is why we document every direct change clearly and recommend testing updates on staging before applying them to live.
Is it ever better to build a new plugin instead of customising an existing one?
Yes — when the required customisation is extensive enough that maintaining it across plugin updates becomes more expensive than owning a standalone solution, or when the existing plugin's behaviour conflicts with your requirement in a way that hooks cannot cleanly override. We advise on this before starting based on the scope of what needs to change.
Can you add custom admin columns or settings to an existing plugin?
Yes. WordPress provides hooks for adding columns to admin list tables, adding settings pages, and inserting custom fields into existing plugin interfaces. These are common customisation requests and do not require modifying the plugin itself.
Will plugin customisation be compatible with future WordPress updates?
Customisations using standard WordPress hooks are compatible with future WordPress core updates by design. Direct plugin file modifications need reviewing against plugin changelogs when updates occur, which is why we prioritise hook-based approaches wherever possible.
